The Asselian (lowermost Permian) strata of the Boskovice Basin in the Czech Republic are recognized for their fossil-rich assemblages of discosauriscid seymouriamorphs some of which exhibit exceptional preservation, including soft tissues, such as external gills and eye structures 1, 2, 3, 4. At the same time, it highlights the significance of the ichnological record of the Boskovice Basin which has long been neglected despite offering evidence for the presence of diverse faunal components that have not been reported from these basinal deposits before. The new material adds to the scarce record of synapsids from the Carboniferous/Permian transitional interval of equatorial Pangea. The best-preserved specimen further shows rare skin impressions, which have not been observed from the hands or feet of early-diverging mammal-line amniotes before. The material originates from three localities situated within the Letovice and Padochov formations and is assignable to the ichnotaxon Dimetropus. Here, we describe well-preserved isolated tracks, manus-pes couples, and a slab with trackways composed of approximately 20 tracks in at least four different directions belonging to early-diverging, or ‘pelycosaur-grade’, synapsids. However, recent fieldwork in the Asselian (lowermost Permian) of the Boskovice Basin has yielded a diverse assemblage of tetrapod tracks, illuminating a hidden terrestrial tetrapod diversity. The only other tetrapods from the strata are represented by rare temnospondyls. So it has two things, firstly prevention and the other is an alert system in case of an accident.Īltered opinions do not alter a man's character (or do so very little) but they do illuminate individual aspects of the constellation of his personality which with a different constellation of opinions had hitherto remained dark and unrecognizable.Lower Permian deposits of the Boskovice Basin in the Czech Republic have long been renowned for extraordinarily abundant specimens of discosauriscid seymouriamorphs, some of which showing exceptional preservation, including widespread soft tissues. This system connects to mobile phone sensors so that when there is a change in acceleration it sends those registered details that there is a change in acceleration and probably an accident and a location where the cyclist can be found. When the cyclist moves to the left it activates the indicator on the left side. “Purely Cantonese speakers didn’t start emigrating to North America and dominating the Chinese community until about the late 1970s, following a wave of immigration from Hong Kong. With some of the older generation today, the cities of Vancouver and San Francisco are still referred to with this name,” he wrote. They looked at North America as Gim Saan (Golden Mountain), and a way out of the poor and agrarian lives they lived. The original Chinese settlers were primarily from Toishan county in Guangdong, and this was a very poor part of the country. Mandarin, on the other hand, sounds like gibberish to non-Mandarin speaking people. While Cantonese and Toishanese are similar, there are some very distinct differences in the dialects. “While they were from Canton province in China, the majority of them spoke an dialect of Cantonese that is more accurately described as Toishanese (or in the vernacular of those people: Hoy-saan waa), and are still referred to among Chinese people as being of Toishan origin. Richard Mah, who lives in Calgary, wanted to clarify a point I’d made in my original column, in which I described the first Chinese immigrants to Alberta as Cantonese. (Louise wasn’t the only one to post a comment about the Lydo – and as a result, I’ve had the old jingle stuck in my head for days.) Free delivery!‘ Part of my memories of an exciting yet slightly scary time when everything was new and strange.” Still remember the ditty: ‘426-5050, if you’re hungry call the Lydo. “When I was a brand new immigrant in Edmonton in 1972 there was a constant ad on TV for a restaurant called The Lydo. I could taste the inspiration for the “Western” dishes and am in awe of how, with extremely limited and unfamiliar ingredients available all those years ago, these creative Chinese immigrants were able to recreate a semblance of those dishes that have become as intrinsically ‘Prairie’ as beef and potatoes.” The Lingnan Restaurant in Edmonton is one of the last remaining Palaces of the Exotic, still serving the kind of westernized Cantonese dishes Edmontonians came to love in the 1960s.įor Louise Consterdine, an immigrant from England, take-out Chinese was her introduction to life in a new country. During travels to Shanghai, Beijing, Sanya and Hong Kong, I’ve eaten the original versions of dishes like Kung Pao Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Shanghai Noodles and Pork Dumplings. “My parents still eat and love the ‘Western’ Chinese food you get at restaurants like the Lingnan (they’ve been going there for 30 years). Their menu was my introduction to Asian cuisine, a passion for which grew exponentially in 1984 when I moved to Thailand,” she wrote. Pineapple chicken balls, sweet & sour pork, chop suey, egg rolls, fried rice – many good memories of lovely people and delicious food. “Chin’s Cafe in Vegreville and Eddie Fong’s in Vermilion were my family’s go-to restaurant for special occasions. And I also believe this experience was where my mother learned to prepare some Oriental dishes-which she did very well-along with her expertise in making varenyky (perogies) & holubtsiy (cabbage rolls).” The Windsor Cafe, in Beaverlodge, was a fairly typical small-town Chinese restaurant.Įlaine Wilson – who is now a professional chef and cooking teacher – had her own story about how growing up with the prairie version of Chinese cuisine launched her passion for adventurous eating. The elder fellow would sit with us for a time-he introduced me to sesame seed. Because we were some of the ‘regulars’ they knew us. The other really wonderful memory for me was the elder man-he couldn’t speak English and my English was heavily accented-my first language is Ukrainian. “Anyway, this place is where I became familiar with Chinese food. The table was what I believe was arbourite and the seats of the chairs were vinyl.” The tables had chrome legs as did the chairs. One of my memories of that time was going into Millet on a Saturday for groceries, then we’d stop at a restaurant which to my recollection was run by a Chinese family. “My father was a teacher at Pipestone School where I was enrolled in the elementary grades (2 & 3). “Back in the ‘50’s our family lived at Pipestone, between Pigeon Lake and Millet,” she wrote. In the plane, Therefore, there are only three regular tessellations (composed of the hexagon, square, and triangle ), illustrated above (Ghyka 1977, p. You have a single vertex, which has edges to the triangle surrounding it.Īs for the edges between triangles, that's just how it converts the various tessellated points to create a full set of triangles. Consider a two-dimensional tessellation with regular -gons at each polygon vertex. Which is exactly what you have in the center. Now we have a Zen Koan: what does a triangle with no edges look like? And the second will be tessellated into 4 - 2 * 2 = 0 edges. The first inner triangle will be tessellated into 4 - 2 * 1 = 2 edges. If you have, as in your case, N=4, then there will be 2 inner triangles. The first inner triangle will have 3 edges and the second will have 1.īut something odd happens in this equations when N is even. So if we have an inner tessellation level of 5, then there will be 2 inner triangles. The number of edges that an inner triangle edge is tessellated into is N - 2K. The edges of an inner triangle are always tessellated into the same number of edges. K therefore represents each concentric inner triangle, with K = 1 representing the outermost inner triangle (but not the outer triangle). And let K go from 1 to N/2, rounded down. But the number of concentric triangles generated is half of the inner tessellation level, rounded down. By definition, a tessellation is tiling that uses shapes to cover a surface with no gaps or overlaps. Triangle tessellation is defined based on generating concentric triangles within the outer triangle. I suppose the confusing part is how the inner tessellation level works. By definition, tilings require the use of regular polygons put together such that it completely. A second is tessellated into 2 edges and the third into three. There is a difference between a tiling and a tessellation. Therefore, one edge is "subdivided" into one edge. Voronoi or Dirichlet tilings are tessellations where each tile is defined as the set of points closest to one of the points in a discrete set of defining points. You provided the tessellation levels 1, 2, and 3. Each edge is assigned an index in the outer tessellation levels array, as specified in the standard. Therefore, a tessellation level of 1 means one edge. The tessellation levels specify the number of edges that will be generated.
You don’t need to use a valance, because there’s nothing ugly or disruptive about the way these shades install. With their alternating stripes of light and dark, these shades are sleek, stylish, and timeless perfect for any decor. Aesthetic Appealīoth traditional and contemporary homeowners out there will love the look of zebra shades. Zebra roller shades provide a number of benefits that make them a great investment, such as their versatility, customizability, practicality, and aesthetic appeal. When looking for window coverings, you want to be sure that you are getting the most value for money. For the smart home aesthetic, you can also find cordless zebra shades they come with a motor and remote, making it easier to operate from anywhere in the room. This will adjust the shaded lines to create the desired effect. To use zebra shades, there is a chain or cord loop on one side that is pulled to move the fabric loop around the roller. If you choose a light-blocking fabric, they can be just as effective as blackout roller shades – perfect for blocking out harmful UV rays. When the panels are overlapping, the stripes of light will come through, brightening up the room. The way these shades are built means that you have full light control – and the light covers the entire room, rather than hitting a particular spot (as Roman shades or roller blinds tend to do).Īs the solid panels line up with the spaces in between the stripes, the light is entirely blocked and the room is darkened. They all refer to the same type of room darkening window treatment.Īs previously mentioned, the whole mechanic behind zebra shades is the alternating stripes of light and dark. This means that you can generally use any term you want when referring to zebra shades – zebra shades, zebra blinds, or zebra curtains – and they also go by the name of combi shades. This makes them a versatile choice that can be used in a variety of rooms. Much like horizontal blinds, they allow light to come in evenly and fill the entire room. They have the drape and fabric panels of curtains, as well as the adjustable stripes of shades. Zebra shades are unique in that they can be thought of as a cross between curtains and shades. Curtains are drape-like fabric panels hanging from a rod, shades are fabric or vinyl roller shades that pull up or down to cover a window, and blinds are horizontal or vertical slats that can be opened and closed to control light and privacy. In general, we understand curtains, shades, and blinds to be three separate window treatments. And, because they are a roller shade, you can choose from a variety of textures and patterns as well.Īre There Any Differences Between Zebra Shades, Zebra Blinds, and Zebra Curtains? You can find budget-friendly blinds in a variety of colors, from muted neutrals to bright and bold hues. Zebra shades are also versatile in terms of color and style. This means that you can control how much light comes into the room, and how much privacy you have. Since each shade is two layers of striped fabric, you can adjust the stripes to line up, partially overlap, or completely obscure the window. The reason these shades are so popular and convenient is that they are totally adjustable. The name 'zebra' comes from their appearance the fabric is made up of a series of horizontal stripes, alternating between solid and sheer shades. Zebra shades are high-quality light filtering roller shades made of one continuous loop of dark and sheer fabric. The unique design of these shades has made them a popular choice for windows around the world. In 1990s South Korea, where designers were known for their innovation and creativity, zebra shades were born.
